On sin and cockroaches....
The greatest phobia I have is that of cockroaches. They totally repulse me.
Their ugly smell, the way they crawl worse when they fly. My mom usually jokes that probably I was killed by a cockroach in an afterlife.
This morning I was about to get something from the fridge when I felt one crawling on my leg, I jumped up ad ran away as fast as I could.
Then I had this realisation.
As a christian sin should disgust me even more than the cockroach.
But often times, the lies roll down my tongue and I don't try to stop them.
When the thoughts of immorality come to my mind, I don't rebuke them immediately I savour them for a while.
One major reason why we often fall to the temptation of sin is because we want to stay and fight it.
The Bible clearly states how to handle sin "Flee!!'
Don't try to make sense of the situation. Don't try to rationalise it. Don't try to flex your Ï-can-withstand- muscle.
Simply run.
Bringing it back to me, if I hated and could run away from a cockroach because of how irritating it is, how much more sin which disrupts my spirit.
Sin makes you vulnerable to the bad things of the world and its smelly nature will keep you from entering heaven. Heaven is a clean place, yo.
So next time you're tempted to do that which is unwholesome, imagine how it would be to bathe with cockroach juices, that's exactly the way you'd smell to God.
